EDGE’s Metal Stairs for sale are precision engineered prefabricated staircases and are appropriate for indoor or outdoor use, including access to mezzanines, second and third stories of office buildings or residential buildings. Designed to meet or exceed all International Building Codes (IBC) related to metal staircase construction, these prefab metal stairs for sale are perfect for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.
EDGE’s Metal Stairs
EDGE’s prefabricated commercial stair systems are available in aluminum and steel construction and finished with a durable powder coating in a variety of colors to suit your needs. They have a uniform rise and run, solid risers, handrails 34 inches in height, guardrails no less than 42 inches high, handrail extensions, and a serrated slip resistant surface. Commercial metal stair options include 12 feet, 11 feet, 10 feet, 9 feet, or 8 feet.
IBC compliant, these metal commercial stairs bolt together and are easily installed for interior or exterior use.
IBC-Compliant Stairs for Public Access
The IBC regulates stairs used by the public. This includes any stairway that connects a building to a public space. IBC specifies that stairways with an occupant load of fewer than 50 people must be at least 36 inches wide. Stairways higher than 12 feet tall require an intermediate landing in the middle of the stairway. Landings are to be the same width as the stairway and extend at least three feet in length.
Handrails and guards are mandatory for open-sided walking surfaces like stairs and elevated platforms. IBC compliant stairs can’t have any gaps which could allow a four-inch sphere to pass through any gaps between handrails or guards.
IBC compliant stairs have balusters no more than 4 inches on center spacing, treads with a closed riser between four and seven inches high and 11 inches deep, and handrails must be no less than 42 inches high.
Stairways open to the public should adhere to IBC guidelines. Our commercial metal stairs are designed to meet or exceed all IBC regulations.
Stairways that are not for public use, such as stairways in manufacturing or factory settings where only designated employees work, are not bound by IBC.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has standards that govern the design, construction, and use of interior and exterior stairs used to access equipment, machinery, elevated platforms, other floors, and more. In general, OSHA standards are less stringent than IBC standards. (But we understand this can be confusing to customers.) We will help guide you.
Maintain IBC/OSHA Compliance
Another option is our IBC and OSHA Portable Stair line of products available in OSHA compliant configurations or IBC and OSHA compliant configurations. The portable stair line utilizes five key components: universal platforms, safety handrails, safety stairs, tower platform supports, and ladders.
Therefore, whether you need metal stairs to comply with IBC standards, OSHA standards, or both IBC and OSHA, we can help you find an appropriate solution for your residential, commercial, and industrial applications.
