OSHA 29 CFR 1910.25 governs stair angle, uniform riser height and tread depth, minimum width, and handrail requirements, and stairways with four or more risers or rising more than 30 inches need handrails. Treads must be slip resistant. Because every stair we build is engineered to that standard, the geometry is right before it ships rather than being discovered during an inspection.
Stairs whenever the space and budget allow. A worker can carry tools and parts up a stair with one hand free, which is impossible on a ladder where three points of contact are required. Stairs also cause far fewer incidents. Ladders make sense where the footprint is genuinely unavailable, and we build OSHA-compliant fixed ladders for those cases.
Many are designed to be. Freestanding crossovers rest on the floor and can be relocated with a forklift when a production line changes. Portable stair systems go further with casters and a locking system for regular repositioning. If your layout changes seasonally or by product run, say so during the quote and we will design for mobility from the start.
Hot-dip galvanizing is the workhorse for wet, corrosive, and outdoor conditions, and it is what we recommend for food and beverage plants, water treatment facilities, and coastal sites. Powder coat suits dry interiors and offers color options for safety marking or brand standards. The two can be combined where you need maximum corrosion resistance and a finished appearance.
